Saturday, December 11, 2004Our hikes normally take us into nature, but on this day we went on a different kind of hike, through the city.
Our hikes normally teach us about nature and the environment, but this hike taught us about history and Honolulu. It is our Christmas Hike, and we do it in the evening to see the "Honolulu City Lights." We do it every year, alternating between the first Saturday in December and the second Saturday. On the first Saturdays, we get to see the "Electric Parade," and on the second Saturdays, when it is less crowded, we get to visit Honolulu Hale and see the Christmas decorations and wreaths. We got an unexpected treat this year. We stumbled onto the annual "Christmas Boat Parade" in Honolulu Harbor.
We met at Harbor Court on Nimitz Highway, walked through "China Town,", through the Fort Street Mall, down Beretania Street to the State Capital, to Honolulu Hale. From there we went to the Aloha Tower Market Place where we had dinner and viewed the boat parade. Our night ended with a drive through the city to view the "Honolulu City Lights."
