1500-1900 Advance group arrives at MCBH to Hale Koa Beach to establish camping area.
Saturday, 17 February 2001
0900-0930 Arrival of camp participants to Enlisted Club. Host will meet participants at H-3 gate to facilitate temporary vehicle passes for the weekend.
0930-1000 Welcome aboard, introductions, briefings by military host and Ecology Camp staff.
1000-1130 Transit to designated campsites at Hale Koa Beach. Unload equipment and set up tents. Lunch.
1130-1200 Camp participants to meet with leaders and resource personnel in their respective study groups. Each group will proceed to their designated study areas as determined after consultation with base authorities. All study groups are three (3) hours in duration. Request military transportation to study sites.
1200-1500 Environmental Ecology and Hawaiian Cultural Study Groups
1. SEA BIRD FIELD STUDY (TBA), 3 hours
2. MARINE REEF WALK Nathan Nishimura, 1 ½ hours
3. MOKAPU GEOLOGY TOUR (TBA), 1 ½ hours
4. MOKAPU ARCHAEOLOGY & CULTURAL TOUR (TBA), 1 ½ hours
5. MOKAPU WETLAND ECOSYSTEM TOUR Dr. Diane Drigot and Dr. Bruce Wilcox, 1 ½ hours
6. AVIAN PALEONTOLOGY TOUR Dr. Alan Ziegler, 1 ½ hours
7. KAWAINUI MARSH ECOSYSTEM & HAWAIIAN CULTURAL TOUR Dr. Steve Montgomery, Dr. Rick Guinther, Dr. Chuck Burrows, 3 hours
8. FISH CATCHING & PREPARATION Erron Yoshioka, 3 hours
9. FISH PRINTING, 1 ½ hours
10. BRACELET MAKING, 1 ½ hours
11. BASE PLANE
12. FIRE & RESCUE
13. GLASS BOTTOM BOAT
1500 Arrive at Hale Koa Beach. Clean up and prepare for dinner and evening program.
1545 Depart for dinner at Anderson Hall (request military transportation to Dining Facilities).
1600-1700 Dinner at Anderson Hall.
1800-2000 Evening program at Boondocker Theater. Presentations by Dr. Diane Drigot, Depa Maly and possibly Nainoa Thompson.
2000 Return to Hale Koa Camp (request military transportation from Boondocker Theater to Hale Koa Beach).
2000-2300 Free time snack time, campfire, stargazing, night fishing.
2300 LIGHTS OUT!!!
Sunday, 18 February 2001
0700 Camp wake up. Pack daypacks for all day service projects.
0745 Depart to Anderson Hall for breakfast (request military transports to Dining Facilities).
0800-0900 Breakfast at Anderson Hall.
0900 Assemble in front of dining hall for transportation to service projects. Request military transportation for 80 passengers from Anderson Hall to Kapa`a Quarry road for Kawai Nui service project. Participants for base service project will walk to their sites from Anderson Hall.
1000 Request box lunches from Dining Facility, transported to work site. Numbers TBD.
0930-1130 Service Projects Replant native plants on base, clean marsh at Kawai Nui, work in He`eia Fishpond.
1130-1200 Lunch
1200-1430 Continue service projects.
1430 Return to Hale Koa Beach Camp (request military transportation from Kapa`a Quarry Road and Base service projects).
1500 Clean up, prepare for dinner and evening activities
1545 Depart for dinner at Anderson Hall (request military transportation to Dining Facility).
1600-1700 Dinner at Anderson Hall.
1800-2000 Social activity at Enlisted Club (?).
2000-2300 Free time snack time, campfire, stargazing, night fishing.
2300 LIGHTS OUT!!!
